Scrappy Review

1 out of 5

Scrappy lost points in this episode because I like Duke better than Scrappy. Duke's smart and calm. But his influence makes Scrappy better. He forces Scrappy to slow down and think in a way that no one else bother's too. Still Scrappy keeps making a mess regardless of Duke's influence.

Scrappy also lost point because he caused major property damage to the Mystery Machine and interfered with Shaggy and Scooby's escape.

Thoughts, Details and Recap

There's no masked bad guy in this episode. That's rare in Scooby-Doo. Not unheard of but rare. It's nice to see the writers try something different.

The gang is in New York City visiting Scrappy's neighborhood. Note: The Statue of Liberty has a burning flame. Fred, Velma and Daphne drop off Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy and drive away. I guess they're out of the episode.

Scrappy introduces Scooby to his puppy friends, Duke and Annie (Shaggy's there too). Two criminals see Scooby and identify him as a famous and valuable dog. They plot to abduct him. Scheming ensues.

Scooby and Shaggy wander off to seek food. Scooby wanders onto the kidnapper's truck. Scooby calls for help and Shaggy runs after the truck. When Shaggy gets onto the truck, he knocks off a crate. Duke talks sense into Scrappy and takes up the role of the Velma of the episode. Duke finds a piece of the broken pottery that says "Made in Japan" and Annie notices a piece of the crate says "Paris Warehouse". Duke leads them to the warehouse.

Scooby and Shaggy are officially abducted. One of the kidnappers calls Hollywood for the guy that pays ransom. Scooby and Shaggy try to escape. Hijinks ensue.

The Puppies find the warehouse and face off with the abductors. Shaggy and Scooby get abducted again and transported to a ship. The puppies aren't far behind thanks to Duke, the only competent in the episode.

More hijinks ensue when the puppies thwart Shaggy and Scooby's escape. Scrappy throws them a rope and the entire rope and I really, really miss Fred, Velma and Daphne. At least we have Duke. Duke's good people. Every time Scooby and Shaggy nearly escape, Scrappy ruins it.

Scooby and Shaggy escape with an inflatable raft. They only escape because Scrappy is literally in a net and cannot ruin it for them.

The criminals surrender.

Velma, Daphne and Fred return in time for Scrappy to wreck the Mystery Machine.
