This was not Slappy's first appearance but it was her first cartoon. Prior to this episode she was visible in the opening credits and in other shorts.
Slappy is my favorite Animaniacs character. I loved the show when I was a kid. Between Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons and Animaniacs, I watched a lot of Warner Bros cartoons. I still do.
Slappy is a retired golden age cartoon star. She is paired with her nephew Skippy, the avatar of the new generation. She's grumpy, crotchety, meta. She's perfect and it's sad to me that she only made one appearance in the new series.
Slappy is rewatching one of her old cartoons when Skippy comes in hopped up on Totally, Awesome Acme Snax. She decides to make Skippy walnut fig dough surprise. To get Walnuts, they visit Doug the Dog. Doug the Dog wants to eat Slappy. What follows is top notch slapstick. There are bombs and classic gags. Slappy and Skippy get the walnuts. Doug gets bashed.
Those Endearing Young Charms is a classic gag featured in many golden age Looney Tunes cartoons like Ballot Box Bunny.
