Slappy and Skippy face off with the tree chop happy Daniel Boone in frontier times.
Thoughts, Details and Recap
Skippy and Slappy are living their best frontier life when Daniel Boone starts cutting down their tree. Slappy is patient enough. She dumps a pot of wax on him. The man doesn't take a hint. He keeps coming and she keeps making him regret it.
Tom, Dick and Larry from "The Dover Boys" make an appearance as a singing trio. They sing the events of the cartoon. Their style is changed from the highly stylized looks in their cartoon to the style of Animaniacs. The Dover Boys is about three college students, Tom, Dick and Larry spending the day with their fiancé.
This cartoon takes Slappy and Skippy out of their usual setting like "Guardin' the Garden" and "Baghdad Café". It puts them in 1767 Kentucky (I could point out that Kentucky was a part of Virginia until 1792 but technically the county of Kentucky might have existed then). Some Slappy cartoons feature her as the aggressor disproportionately attacking someone over a slight like "I Got Yer Can", others she has a specific goal that she will stop at nothing to achieve like "Bumbie's Mom" and she also is confronted by someone with an obsessive aggression towards her like this cartoon and "Hurray for Slappy". Slappy is confident in all of these and in control of the situation because she's genre aware. There are shorts where she loses the upper hand but she comes out on top in the end.
