Slappy and Skippy disagree with a critic's review of Slappy's work.
Thoughts, Details and Recap
Slappy and Skippy are watching Lean Hisskill and Codger Eggbert review a laser disc release of the Best of Looney Tunes. They feature clips from "What's Opera, Doc?", "Duck Amuck", and "Porky in Wackyland". The animation of the show doesn't suffer too bad from the comparison. When they discuss Slappy Squirrel, they are explicit about their hatred of her work. Skippy is furious. He declares war on the pair of reviewers. Slappy and Skippy bomb the home the reviewers. Hisskill and Eggbert are spared because they were away at the time. Slappy and Skippy track the reviewers to a film premiere and proceed to torture them.
Hisskill and Eggbert are parody of Siskel and Ebert, a pair of well known and popular film reviewers of the time. They reviewed films together as a team for 24 years. Shirley the Loon from Tiny Toons Adventures also has a cameo.
The film Hisskill and Eggbert review is Stephen Spielberg's new dinosaur film, a reference to Jurassic Park. The film came out in June while the episode premiered in November of that year. Though Spielberg was the executive producer on the series and the writing staff probably saw his new film as a perfect opportunity to reference him.
Skippy is a joyful partner to Slappy. He's not as naïve as he was portrayed in "Bumbee's Mom". He's also not the exposition spouter he was in "Hurray for Slappy". He goes for a weapon first. He takes his bribery money to Vegas. I like him either way.
