Slappy takes Skippy to see Bumbie (a Bambi parody). Skippy is traumatized when Bumbie's Mom (spoiler for Bambi...a 79 year old film) is shot by a hunter. Slappy explains to Skippy that it was just a cartoon. Considering they are cartoons and they are aware they're cartoons (at least, Slappy's well aware), it's easy to see why this isn't reassuring to him. To comfort Skippy, Slappy takes him to visit her old friend and prove that Bumbie's Mom isn't dead.
"Have I ever lied to you before?"
"You said keno is legal in Burbank, you said Magilla Gorilla was a woman..."
I never ask my nephews if I've ever lied to them that but I regularly ask them, "Have I ever let you down?" when I want them to give me just a little bit of faith. Not a lot of faith. Just to stop complaining long enough for me to do the thing like turn on the show they've never watched before.
I've never seen either of them react to a movie the way Skippy. Although, for Christmas I bought Dr. Texas a Gremlins calendar. It was the best advent calendar I've ever seen. But his little brother, hated them. He told me about a nightmare he had about the gremlins. I'm pretty sure he's never seen the movie. At most he's seen one of the funny parts of Gremlins 2. Considering his anarchic little soul, I'm still not sure why the four year old disliked them.
