Ridding Your Life of Rats

According to Joshua Vale's book on Chinese Superstitions, in households where the cats were tied, the mice would play. To deal with the frolicking mice, the household would employ a luminous cat.
A spirit cat can be invoked or drawn (pun intended) with an image of a cat on yellow paper with one rat in its mouth and a second under its paw.
For maximum effectiveness, the image would be displayed in the kitchen.
The fur of spirit cats was said to shine with a light that scared rats away. Hence the term, luminous cat.
